Which servers does Nightbeam work with?
Any server that speaks SFTP or WebDAV. SFTP runs over SSH; WebDAV runs over HTTPS and is often faster for a remote box. Most Linux servers, NAS devices such as Synology and QNAP, seedboxes and VPSes do one or the other out of the box — point Nightbeam at it and it streams your media. Nothing is uploaded to a third-party cloud.
What video formats are supported?
Common formats including MP4, MKV, AVI and MOV. Playback depends on the codecs inside your files and what your device can decode.
How do I organise my media?
You do not have to. Nightbeam reads the files already on your server and groups films, shows, seasons and episodes automatically — no renaming, no tagging, and no media server software to install.
What is in Nightbeam Pro?
The free version connects to one server and one library folder. Pro is a single purchase — no subscription — that adds unlimited servers and folders, offline downloads, casting to Chromecast, external displays and AR glasses, and auto-play for the next episode. If you bought Nightbeam back when it was a paid app, Pro is already included.
Can I watch on a TV or AR glasses?
Yes. A cable — an HDMI adapter or a pair of AR glasses — gives you full-screen video on the external display automatically. For a TV on your network, use the cast button in the player to send it to a Chromecast. AirPlay carries audio only, because the built-in player renders video on the device itself, so there is no video stream for AirPlay to route. External displays and casting are part of Pro.
Are my credentials secure?
Yes. Server credentials are stored in your device’s system keychain. They are never transmitted to anyone but your own server.
Can I use Nightbeam offline?
Browsing and streaming need a connection to your server, but anything you have downloaded plays with no connection at all. Downloading is part of Pro.
SFTP or WebDAV — which should I use?
Either works. WebDAV streams over HTTPS and is often faster on a remote server; SFTP runs over SSH and is what most NAS boxes and seedboxes offer by default. Add whichever your server gives you — you can mix both across different servers in the same app.
